T Cell Receptors and HLA-DR Expression in Tuberculous Pleural Effusion

Abstract

|
Man T cells with specific receptors for Mycobacterum tuberculosis antigens are present in the blood and lymphoid tissues of individuals possessing cell mediated immnity. However, the precise pathogenesis of tuberculous pleural effusion still
remains to
be determined. In animal experiments there reports of increased numbers of ν/δT cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of the lung exposed to aerosols containing a M. tuberculosis extract.
In search for the participation of ν/δT cells in tuberculous pleurisy, we measured the percentage of ν/δT cells and HLA-DR expression of ν/δ T cells using monoclonal antibody and two-color folw cytometry in peripheral blood, pleural fluid
of
tuberculous (n=9).
In pleural fluid 3.2% wereν/δT cells, and in PBMC 6.9%. Howeverd, we found in pleural fluid HLA-DR expression in 24.2% of ν/δT cells and in PBMC 12.3% of them.
ν/δT cells from tuberculous pleural effusion did not increase in the pleural fluid but were activated more than that in the peripheral blood.
